Background

Dementia affects millions globally and an increasing number in Bangladesh. It poses complex challenges not only for the individuals living with it, but also for their families and professional caregivers. In response, Faith Bangladesh Institute of Allied Health Professionals is offering a Level-3 professional training course in Caregiving for Persons with Dementia. This course is structured to develop competent, confident, and compassionate caregivers ready to serve in both home and institutional settings.

Course Description and Objective

This competency-based training develops foundational and advanced caregiving skills tailored for dementia care. It emphasizes empathy, communication, and safety, while aligning with national standards for professional caregiving.

Course Objectives:

• Understand dementia and its progression

• Learn techniques to handle communication and behavioral issues

• Provide physical, emotional, and daily support

• Promote client dignity and reduce caregiver stress

Expected Outcome:

After completing this course, participants will:
✔ Demonstrate a strong grasp of dementia-related care needs
✔ Communicate effectively and empathetically with clients and families
✔ Provide structured, respectful care in daily activities
✔ Be qualified with an NSDA-approved Level-3 Certificate to pursue caregiving roles in hospitals, care homes, or abroad

• Fundamentals of Dementia and Cognitive Disorders

• Principles of Person-Centered Dementia Care

• Communication and Emotional Support Techniques

• Managing Difficult Behaviors in Dementia

• Support in Hygiene, Nutrition, Mobility

• Handling Burnout and Promoting Self-Care

• Safety Protocols and Emergency Management

Duration and Timing:

3-Month Course

• Weekly theory and practical sessions

• Total: 120 hours (including hands-on practice and assessment)

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum SSC or equivalent education

• Basic understanding of caregiving principles

National and international experts in dementia care, mental health, and allied health training. Interactive sessions, real-life case studies, group activities, and supervised fieldwork included.
