Assalamu Alaikum,
I am Sajeda Akter Moon, a 4th-year student of BSc in Occupational Therapy at the Bangladesh Health Professions Institute (BHPI), CRP. In the 4th year of my course curriculum, Advanced Placement is one of the components. For my Advanced Placement, I chose faith Bangladesh.
Advanced Placement has to be completed in an external organization. From the beginning, I had the desire to work in pediatrics, and I felt that faith Bangladesh would be a suitable place for that. That is why I chose faith Bangladesh.
To do my placement at faith Bangladesh, I first received permission from my institute, BHPI. I then emailed that permission letter to Lead Clinical Occupational Therapist, Humaira Umme Salma Ma’am at faith Bangladesh. She granted me permission after consulting with faith Bangladesh authorities. After that, I had to come to faith Bangladesh and complete an online application. This was a new process for me, but the HR Sir at faith Bangladesh helped me through it. Along with my peers, I completed the online application process at the same time.
During my placement here, under the supervision of Humaira Umme Salma Ma’am and co-supervisor Israt Jahan Sonia Ma’am, I had the opportunity to observe patients, watch their treatment-handling techniques, and observe their counseling approaches.
In addition, the clinical occupational therapists here gave us presentations on various conditions such as ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD, Sensory Integration Therapy, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Behavior Management. These sessions helped us relate our theoretical learning to practical learning, which will remain with us as lifelong knowledge.
faith Bangladesh not only has occupational therapy sessions but also operates a special school called Brighter Life School. We had the opportunity to work with the children of this school. Each of us worked with a specific child and prepared a case study based on that child’s case.
At faith Bangladesh, both individual sessions and group sessions are conducted. In group therapy, a clinical occupational therapist, a speech and language therapist, the child, and the child’s parents can all be present. We also engaged in group therapy, experiencing both group planning and execution.
The expectations we had when we came to faith Bangladesh for our Advanced Placement were fulfilled by the end of our journey. I wanted to deepen my knowledge in pediatrics, neurodevelopmental conditions, and practical skills—and this experience will be highly effective in my professional life.
At the very beginning of our placement, Faith Bangladesh gave us a detailed tour from the ground floor up to the 5th floor, explaining which functions and activities take place on each floor.
We were also given a presentation on the Code of Conduct, through which we learned how important it is for running an organization effectively.
At the end of our one-month journey, we gave a presentation on how much our expectations were fulfilled and shared our experiences. This presentation was attended by all the occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and other staff of Faith Bangladesh.
As part of our presentation, we also donated an equipment to Faith Bangladesh, which was included in our presentation and demonstrated during it.
Throughout this one-month journey, from the clinical occupational therapists to all the staff members of Faith Bangladesh, everyone supported us. Whenever I needed assistance, I received it without hesitation.
I sincerely thank Faith Bangladesh for giving me the opportunity to enhance my learning and for allowing me to work in pediatrics.
