Assalamu Alaikum,
My name is Ijma Jafrin, and I am from CRP. I am a 4th-year student in the Occupational Therapy Department at CRP.
There are multiple reasons why I chose faith Bangladesh for my placement. Back in my 2nd year, I did a clinical placement in the pediatrics unit, where I worked extensively with children with cerebral palsy. I observed them and conducted assessments, which gave me valuable experience.
However, I did not get much opportunity to work in an outdoor setting with children having conditions such as Autism, ADHD, ASD, or Down Syndrome. Although such children would come to the outdoor unit, I never had the chance to work with them.
During my 3rd year, in all the placements I did, I could not work with these conditions either. That’s why I had a strong desire from the beginning to work with these conditions.
In my 4th year, I started searching for organizations that work with ADHD, ASD, Down Syndrome, and other developmental disorders. That’s when I came to know about Faith Bangladesh. I collected a lot of information about Faith from the Lead Occupational Therapist and other staff working here. Based on all the feedback I received, faith Bangladesh seemed to be a trustworthy institution where I could learn a lot. That is why I chose faith.
In the first week, we were asked to do patient observations. We came here as a group, and each of us was assigned to different supervisors under whom we observed various children. The main conditions included ADHD, ASD, Down Syndrome, and developmental disorders.
We also had the opportunity to participate in assessments. The therapists here conducted the assessments, and we were able to observe closely and gain knowledge about the proper way to assess patients.
From patient assessment to treatment implementation, planning, and techniques—everything was demonstrated to us by the therapists, and they actively involved us in the process.
The children here are a little different from other children; they are highly sensitive. The way the therapists handle them is truly remarkable. Maintaining a consistent routine and behavior toward such children from morning to evening is very challenging, yet the therapists here manage to keep that consistency throughout the day.
As a result, the parents of the patients are also very satisfied. They often share feedback about their experiences with the therapy or treatment process. The environment here is very friendly toward the children. There are also parent training sessions where parents are guided on dress management, how to handle their child at home, and how to maintain their child’s behavior at home—all of which are extremely helpful for the children’s improvement.
Everything I have learned during my one month at faith Bangladesh will undoubtedly be very useful in the future. After my 4th-year final exams, I will begin my internship, where I will be placed in pediatrics. At that time, I will be able to confidently handle patients because I have already seen the processes firsthand and practiced them myself here.
If I choose to work in this field with children in my professional life, I will be able to confidently apply all the knowledge and skills I have gained here—whether in conducting assessments or managing therapy sessions. The professionalism I learned here will be extremely beneficial in my future career.
Finally, I want to say that all the learning goals I had when I came to faith Bangladesh for my placement have been fully met. I learned everything I had hoped to learn. For that, I am truly grateful to my supervisors and to everyone else here, as they were all very sincere and helped create a friendly environment for me to learn.
I am deeply thankful to faith Bangladesh for giving me such a wonderful opportunity and such a supportive environment to learn everything I aimed for.
Thank you, faith Bangladesh.
